Lance Bombardier Green was reported missing 6 June 1944 during a raid on the enemy occupied island of Brac, Yugoslavia, later confirmed a prisoner of war. A small number of commandos from No.2 were engaged in a failed attempt to locate and liberate their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel 'Jack' Churchill, who had been captured during Operation Flounced on the island of Brac a few days earlier.

Escaped with two others from a work camp at Augsburg, Germany, in September 1944; re-captured seven days later at Reutte, Austria.
