Corporal Fred Holt 2 Commando

Frederick Holt enlisted into the Liverpool Scottish before volunteering for the Independent Companies when formed. Joined No.4 Independent Company and deployed with them to Norway (Operation Scissorforce). In February 1941 Cpl.Holt was attached to 5 troop of No.2 Commando on its formation under Col. Newman. On 28th March 1942 he took part in the Combined Naval and Commando raid on St Nazaire. Embarked on board HMS Campbeltown as part of the protection squad for the pumping-house demolition team as it rammed the dock gates. The raid was a complete success but at a great cost with many killed or, as in his case, taken prisoner of war and remaining as such until March 1945. Frederick Holt died in 1964 aged 49.
