William Parsons, a Bricklayer from Irvine, Ayrshire, enlisted 16 May 1940, later volunteering for the Commandos. Fusilier Parsons, No.3 Commando, was reported missing 19 August 1942 at Dieppe, France, later being confirmed a prisoner of war. His older brother Thomas also served in No.3 Commando and was captured with him during the raid.
