Stanley Wood, a Labourer from Wigan employed as a Dyer and Bleacher, enlisted into the Armed Forces on 13 October 1939 later volunteering for the commandos. Private Wood, No.1 Commando, was reported missing later confirmed a prisoner of war 3 June 1942 at Boulogne, France (Operation Bristle).
