Raymond Thomas Casamajor Addington, the third son of the 6th Viscount Sidmouth, joined No 5 Commando as a Second Lieutenant upon their formation in July 1940 [1][3].
Promoted Lieutenant on the 1st January 1941 [2]. Lieutenant Addington deployed with No.5 Commando to Madagascar (Operation Ironclad) [3].
Later awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in North West Europe whilst a Battery Captain with the 13th Honourable Artillery Company, Royal Horse Artillery [3][4]. Retired from the Army 15 April 1949 and granted honorary rank Major [5].
Member of the Commando Association last residing Marlborough, Wiltshire [6].
