Captain Ralph Cameron was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Italy during Operation Partridge [2].
Recommendation
West of Garigliano River on the night of 29/30 December 1943.
This officer was in command of a force of two troops whose task was to destroy an enemy post near a demolished bridge. He brought his force through a most difficult area of floods and minefields, and led a successful attack on the position. By the time all enemy resistance had been mopped up it was nearly daylight, and Captain Cameron, realising that it would be impossible to withdraw across the river further down, as planned, organised a crossing at the broken bridge. In spite of enemy mortar fire on the bridge, and the absence of any bridging equipment except for one damaged rubber boat, the whole force, including prisoners and wounded, crossed the river with the loss of only one life. This was due to Captain Cameron's excellent organisation and his imperturbable conduct under fire [2].
- 4 July 1947 awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal (rank shown as Captain (Honorary Major) (Q.O.C.H.) and later the Territorial Decoration [3].
