Marine Percy Jeal died during an air attack on Vis, their base of operations against enemy held Dalmatian Islands. Son of Percy Walter and Mary Jeal, of Hassocks, Sussex.
Extract from the 43RM Commando War Diary
28th March 1944 Vis
"Enemy aircraft attacked Vis town, and bombs also fell in Podselje . A direct hit was scored on the Cdo Orderly room resulting in the death of Ty. Lt. F.H. Hancock and two marines."

- The two others who died were Lieutenant Frank Hancock and Marine Samuel Saunders.
- There is a photo in our Gallery titled 'Japanese Flag captured on Hill 170, Burma'. On the reverse are names and some addresses. Amongst them is E.W. Jeal from Ockley Cottages, Hassocks, Sussex. This was his brother Mne. Ernest Walter Jeal [view image of flag].
