John Taylor from Paisley, Scotland, enlisted Royal Marines April 1941. In 1942 he volunteered for and joined the first RM Commando to be formed known at the time simply as the RM Commando, later re-designated as 40RM Commando. Marine Taylor was captured 19 August 1942 during operations at Dieppe, France (Operation Jubilee). He remained in captivity until 1945.
