Marine John Parr was seriously wounded by shrapnel to his upper body and lungs on 29 June 1944 during operations in Normandy. John Alfred Parr was from Wigan and had only recently married Miss Doreen McClune from Kirkcudbright. His brother Frank served in the R.A.F.
