James Smith, a Labourer from Manchester, enlisted into the Armed Forces on 10 October 1932. During the war he volunteered for commando service and was attached to No.3 Commando. Lance Corporal Smith was reported missing 19 August 1942 during Operation Jubilee at Dieppe, France, later found to be a prisoner of war. Served in the Troop commanded by Captain Wills
