Marine George Taylor died during operations at Monte Ornito and Monte Faito, Italy. Son of Harold and Elsie Taylor, of Derby; grandson of Mrs. M. Ward, of Derby.
Mentioned in Despatches for outstanding service while operating with the Allied Armies in Italy. In a letter home Lance Corporal Roy Montague Smith who was himself later killed in action, wrote "George Taylor, one of the three of us, is finished, heard tonight that he was to have had the MM but he was killed so guess he will only be in despatches at least that's what it looks like to me. George did some very good work, a fine chap, I'd had him with me since Ramsgate".
