Gordon Payne joined the Royal Marines on 14 June 1949. Marine Payne, 41 Independent Commando RM, was wounded in November 1950. His Commando was engaged in operations with American Forces as part of Taskforce Drysdale, named after their Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Douglas B. Drysdale, heading out from Koto-ri, Korea, in an attempt to relieve allied forces at Hagaru-ri (Battle of Chosin Reservoir). Marine Payne later served with 45 Commando RM at Suez and Malta before leaving military service in August 1956. Vice-chair Barton Royal British Legion.
