Donald McLellan Hamill, a Railway Clerk from Birkenhead, enlisted 18 August 1938. Leading SBA Hamill RN was attached as a Medic to the RM Commando, later re-designated 40RM Commando, for Operation Jubilee at Dieppe, France. He was captured during the raid on 19 August 1942 and remained in captivity until 1945.
