Bertie William Draper joined the Hampshire Constabulary on the 4th September 1939. In 1942 Constable Draper volunteered for the Commandos and was enlisted into HM Armed Forces on the 23rd of July joining the 2nd Police intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), at Achnacarry. He was subsequently attached to the Heavy Weapons Troop of No.3 Commando. Wounded in Sicily 1943 and treated at 11 General Hospital, Middle East Forces. Post war Bertie Draper re-joined the Hampshire Constabulary on the 1st February 1946 and served with the Force until his retirement on the 15th November 1969. Member of the Commando Assocation last known residing on the Isle of Wight.
