Acting Major Ashford-Russell was wounded and a prisoner of war during operations in Cyrenaica (Bardia raid). Repatriated in 1943.
Appointed M.B.E. (Military Division) in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Italy serving with the Intelligence Corps having left the Commando.
1st January 1968 appointed O.B.E. (Civil Division).
Member of the Commando Association from Alresford, Hampshire.
