Georges Albert Jacques Goodsir, a Schoolmaster from Hampshire, enlisted into the Armed Forces in September 1939, later volunteering for the Commandos and attached to No.7 Commando. He embarked with them for operations in the Middle East as part of Layforce. Lance Bombardier Goodsir was reported missing 2 June 1941 during the rearguard action on Crete. He had been take prisoner on 1 June 1941 and remained in captivity until May 1945 despite several attempts to escape during 1941/42.
