Trooper Frank Williams, No.9 Commando, was wounded 19 March 1944 during operations in Italy (Monte Ornito and Monte Faito).
Francis Arthur Williams was a Metropolitan Police Constable at Hornsey Road Police Station in 1939. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 subsequently joining the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. Initially attached to No.12 Commando before joining No.9 Commando. Served in the Commandos from 22 July 1942 to 27 January 1946.
Post war he re-joined the Metropolitan Police. In 1963 he was a Detective Inspector on the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad team that investigated the Great Train Robbery. Retired with the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent. Author of the book "No Fixed Address - The Great Train Robbers on the Run". Member of the Commando Association.
