Daniel Charles Thomas Hardy enlisted into the Armed Forces on 29 June 1940, civil trade Motor Mechanic. He later volunteered from his Regiment for the Commandos.
Private Hardy, No.3 Commando, was reported missing 14 July 1943 during operations at Agnone, Sicily, and the bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge) and found to have been wounded (phosphorous burns to his neck) and a prisoner of war. He escaped twice but was recaptured. Liberated in May 1945. Post war emigrated to Australia.
