On 24 February 1942 Lieutenant John Stiebel joined the RM Commando from HMS Nelson. Captain Stiebel died during operations in Sicily whilst aboard the HMS Queen Emma during an enemy air attack on the vessel. Son of Major Charles Alexander Stiebel and Berthe Stiebel; husband of Edith E. Stiebel, of Countess Wear, Devon.
