Robert Stephen Lord was attested into the Royal Welch Fusiliers on 20 August 1940. He later volunteered for special service and was attached to No.6 Commando. Fusilier Lord was killed in action during operations in North Africa and has no known grave. Son of Robert and Lily Sharp Lord, of Lytham St. Anne's, Lancashire. His Commando were engaged in an assault on one of a line of flat topped hills known as Green Hill which was held by the enemy and covered the road and railway running from Tabarka to Mateur.
