Leonard William Druce, a Bank Clerk from Borehamwod, Hertfordshire, enlisted 15 September 1939. Commissioned Second Lieutenant 22 March 1941. Volunteered for the commandos. Lieutenant Druce, No.3 Commando, was captured 19 August 1942 during operations at Dieppe, France. He made two attempts at escape but was re-captured on each occasion. Liberated 1945. Member of the Commando Association residing Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
