Corporal Jack Sowery, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales Own), died as a result of an accident in the UK on 16 February 1946. Son of John and Ada Sowery, of Hull. 
In July 1944 Private Sowery was serving in the Far East with No.1 Commando, 1 Troop. His death was during the period all the army commando units were being disbanded, and the men returned to their regiments for continued service or discharge. Those left in No.1 Commando were still overseas and being merged with No.5 Commando before disbandment.
