Frank Burton, a Glassworker from Derbyshire, enlisted into the Royal Marines on 8 December 1942 later joining 41RM Commando sometime after its formation in 1942. Marine Burton was captured and a prisoner of war 10 September 1943 at Salerno, Italy. Escaped 14 April 1945 reaching Allied lines.
