Christopher Swainbank from Burnley enlisted into the Armed Forces on 16 January 1930, civil occupation Labourer. During WW2 he volunteered for commando service. Corporal Swainbank, 52 Middle East Commando attached to 'D' Battalion Layforce, was captured and a prisoner of war 1 June 1941 during operations in Crete and remained in captivity until liberated May 1945. Post war member of the Commando Association.
