Served in No.12 Commando which was disbanded 1943, then No.3 Commando. In December 1943 he was a Lance Sergeant in 1 Troop of No.3 Commando winning an inter troop shooting competition at Bone, North Africa, during a period of rest and recuperation after active service in Sicily and Termoli. Later served in North West Europe becoming the Troop Sergeant Major of 1 Troop. Member of the Commando Association.
