John James 'Jack Jones, a Tanners Sole Leather Machine Operator, resided in 1939 at 63A Gwladys Street, Liverpool. Enlisted 12 January 1940 and posted 'B' Company, 2nd Battalion Liverpool Scots. Volunteered for the commandos and attached to No.7 Commando 1 August 1940. Deployed to the Middle East with his commando forming 'A' Battalion of Layforce.
Lance Corporal Jones was reported missing 2 June 1941 during operations in Crete later found to be a prisoner of war having been captured the previous day. His brother Thomas Ellis Jones served in No.3 Commando. Post war 'Jack' was a member of the Commando Association and later resided overseas in Mallorca.
