Joseph Harry Bryant joined the Metropolitan Police on 5 June 1939, warrant number 127807, collar number H340, and resided at St Stephens Road, Poplar. His service number is within the batch allocated for the 1st Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry which commenced 24 June 1942. However the Metropolitan Police Record Sheet lists Bryant as having been a member of the Corps of Military Police. Therefore his Army Service Record is required to confirm whether or not he actually completed the commando course and entered service in No.3 Commando. He re-joined the Metropolitan Police after the war and retired as a Constable on 11 April 1971.
